The NCGA Foundation held its seventh annual Pro-Am on Friday, August 14, 2009 at Spyglass Hill in Pebble Beach, to support youth life skills and values education in Northern California. Proceeds from the event will help provide the resources for grant funding and the Foundation’s pioneering Youth on Course program.
Four-man teams were paired with a local pro in a modified shamble format in which each team selects the best drive of all five members. Each individual then plays his or her own ball from there through the completion of the hole.
Jason Schmul of Windsor GC fired a one-under 71 to win the professional division. There was a four-way tie for second place at 75.
The Tom's Kids team captured the Pro-Am gross title at 10-under-par 62, with the aid of professional Mark Brenneman of Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. Team members included Foundation president Paul Morton, Brian Morton, Bob Fitzgerald and Paul Fitzgerald.
The John and Marcia Goldman Fund took home the net title, carding a19-under-par 53. Team members were John Goldman, Mike Lindheim, Bruce Taylor, Drew Taylor and professional Shawn Kelly.
Mike O'Connor of the Kaiser Permanente team took home a new Lexus as a result of a hole-in-one on Spyglass' 12th hole. He graciously donated to the Foundation an amount equal to buying drinks.
