2009 Paul Porter Memorial Scholarship Winner Announced

PEBBLE BEACH, CA – The Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) Foundation announced the winner of the 2009 Paul Porter Memorial Scholarship: Anyssa French of Modesto, CA. The Paul Porter Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of former NCGA and Poppy Holding CEO Paul Porter. The $5,000 scholarship will help Anyssa attend the University of Montana this fall.

“Paul would be proud of Anyssa’s dedication to her studies and commitment to the community,” said Adam Heieck, Executive Director of the NCGA Foundation. “Together with the support of the Porter family, we will continue to honor Paul by providing exceptional students the opportunity to continue their education.”

This year the Foundation received more than 325 applications from high school seniors throughout Northern California. Selection criteria included academic performance, letters of recommendation, answers to short essay questions and interviews with members of the review committee. Above all else Anyssa received this year’s scholarship because she embodied the characteristics most important to Paul Porter: self motivation, a tireless work ethic, intelligence, strong leadership and a sense of self and kindness.
