Youth on Course

The NCGA Foundation's Youth on Course (YOC) initiative offers children across Northern California the opportunity to play some of the area's best courses for $5 or less while kids put to use the life skills and values training they learned in their Youth on Course certified program. Having grown to 80 participating golf courses, the program was originally made possible by a generous gift to the NCGA Foundation from an anonymous donor in the San Francisco Bay-Area.

Youth on Course offers participants (Tom's Kids) $2 NCGA memberships. Membership cards will be given to all participating youth and will have a purple sticker on the back saying "Youth on Course/Tom's Kids." Students presenting their card and sticker to participating golf courses at specific times will be granted a discounted Youth on Course rate.

In order to receive discounted green fees through the Youth on Course program, children must either:

1) Be a graduate or current participant of one of the Youth on Course certified youth programs listed below. Youth on Course/Tom's Kids stickers are distributed through these certified programs, not directly from the NCGA Foundation.

OR

2) Enroll in the NCGA Foundation's online life skills curriculum via the juniors only section of this website. Once you pass the curriculum, you will be able to sign up for a regional YOC eClubhouse and a membership card will be sent to your home address. You will then have several options for receiving the Youth on Course sticker.

Juniors become familiar with the NCGA while being issued an NCGA/GHIN handicap, NCGA Golf magazine, and access to junior tournaments.

The Foundation has a history of funding close to 40 junior golf programs. In order to become certified for Youth on Course, programs must teach kids life skills and values such as integrity, respect, fair competition, and conflict resolution, all of which are inherent to the game of golf. Participants of these certified programs are eligible for reduced rates at courses across Northern California that have agreed to be part of Youth on Course.

The NCGA Foundation will negotiate with golf courses to lower junior fees to around $10. The Foundation will then subsidize the course up to $8 so the junior often pays as little as $1 or $2. Courses allot tee times for juniors, usually later in the afternoon when the course is not as crowded and kids are leaving school.

The NCGA Foundation has partnered with other organizations such as the United States Golf Association and The First Tee to ensure that the Youth on Course initiative enjoys continued success in Northern California.
